Yahoo Boys Format – Suspected “Yahoo Boys” Blocks A Major Road In Osun To Protest EFCC Arrests

Confusing drama ensued on Tuesday 9th of February at Osun state when some suspected “Yahoo boys” took to the street to protest the indiscriminate arrest of their colleagues by the EFCC. The young boys reportedly blocked the busy Ilesha – Oshogbo road with various forms of barricade while they also kept burning car tyres on the road.

According to press reports, the protesters allege that EFCC operatives randomly picked up several young men who they suspect to be internet fraudsters during their recent raid of a hotel within the community. The young boys claim that officials of the antigraft agency presented no before the arrest and they also took away many “innocent” people as well.bit.ly They allege that the EFCC operatives were unprofessional in their approach and manner of executing the raid operation.

On the flip side, Daniel Adigun – the spokesperson of NSCDC Osun state command confirmed the incident to be true but also alleged that the protesters were “fake”. Mr Daniel Adigun claimed that EFCC operatives truly raided a hotel in the area but the operation was based on a received intel. He also speculated that many of the so-called protestors are actually “Yahoo boys” themselves and they are only angry because they are being hunted. Similarly, media reports claim that the young men rendered the busy road unusable as several motorists became stranded during the protest activities.

This recent incident brings to mind that just a few months ago, a violent protest also broke out after SARS officers allegedly chased a suspected “Yahoo” boy to his death in Osogbo, Osun state. The protest became so wild that major roads were blocked and police stations were attacked.
